Iki Loo Malang is a strong statement: This Is Malang. Sounds fascist or chauvinistic? Well, I believe that Standup Indo Malang doesn’t really mean that way. We just want to shout loudly and proudly that our community never stop creating fruitful talents.
Iki Loo Malang is an annual event performing some comics who had acknowledged achievements. The basic requirement for the members of Standup Indo Malang to stand on this stage is to win a competition or two. Yes, we have a lot of standup competitions here. There have been some local, regional, and national competitions we have taken part in.
This year appeared 7 comics on the stage of the Iki Loo Malang 2. I will give you a glimpse as the DVD will be available for you to buy.
A State Islamic University of Malang student. Dainty boy. Surely it is an irony considering his Makassar roots and its stereotypes. Haha. He won Metro TV on Campus competition held at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Yesterday evening, he performed some pacey materials ended in the 8th minutes.
I guessed that was also a statement that he was a Makassar guy. At full throttle, he delivered bits about religions and his perspectives as a future Islamic scholar.
Juned aka Junetawa
He works as a labor when common teenagers of his age do ora et labora. A pure Malangese who loves Arema more than he loves his girl. Anyway, he hasn’t been taken since the last Indonesian Minister of Public Works ran the office. He championed a competition held during a nobar event for the World Cup Final at Lapangan Rampal Malang. Nobar, a short for Bahasa Indonesia phrase nonton bareng -watching together, is an Indonesian local genius heritage that the people gather together and watch live match on a big screen. Commonly it is football match.
Juned took the first place on the standup competition. On Iki Loo Malang 2, he performed well. I didn’t notice anything wrong. The problem was just his Axl Rose-ish outfits.
A mixture of some things. Some contraries compiled in one person. First, his Chinese race vs his Islamic faith. Second, he is a boy vs he is pretty. He won a standup competition in Surabaya held by Unipa and Kompas TV. He totally owned the final as I watched him on the stage at Unipa.
In Iki Loo Malang, he performed quite well. But surely I knew he could do better. I know him very well. Come on, Ryan, show the world that being funny is not the basic human rights for the uglies.
An old student of faculty of law. He was born in Makassar, then moving around Indonesia as a kid following his father. His achievement was once being aired on Metro TV Standup Comedy Show. This was a nice achievement as just few fellow comedians from provinces outside Jakarta and West Java had this chance.
The most memorable scene from his acts on Iki Loo Malang stage was just the way he entered the stage. Just that. Hahaha. Frankly speaking I didn’t watch him performing as I needed to do something else as the part of the stage crews.
The finalist of Street Comedy Competition at Standup Festival 2013 in Jakarta. Some people recognized him as an absurdly mischief comic. I would say the same. He is a student of Brawijaya University and now he is in an internship program at a national bank branch office.
In Iki Loo Malang, he walked to stage and danced along with the music of the remix version of Cinta Rasul (Loving the Prophet Muhammad, a famous Islamic song for kids). Fariz was applauded a lot by the audiences. One of the best performers of the night.
The member of Standup Indo Malang appeared on the stage of the Grand Final of SUCI (Standup Comedy Indonesia) Competition Season 4 on Kompas TV. That was a precious evening for Malang as two of the performers were the member of Standup Indo Malang. The first one was Abdur as the grand finalist. Second one was Dani as the guest comic. Well, he is a comic gifted with disabilities. And yes, they are given gifts. To make the audiences laugh, he just needs to produce one or two sentences making fun of himself and his disabilities. He won the Golden Ticket during the audition stage but unluckily he wasn’t called to take part in the competition. In the very evening of the Grand Final, he won people’s heart. I was there to witness him made thousands people standing-applauded him in the end of his performance.
In Iki Loo Malang, as predicted, he did well. People love him. Yes, people sympathize other people with disabilities. It’s normal. But people more likely will absolutely love those who have heartwarming courage and passion to entertain the others.
The third champion of SUCI Kompas TV Season 3. Now he is known as the star of some TV shows. Enough said. On the stage of Iki Loo Malang 2, of course, he performed superbly well. He was on stage for more than 20 minutes.
That gig was his first standup comedy show after he had hiatus for some months due his works on TV.
He was the host of the show. Actually, the real star of Iki Loo Malang was him. I will explain the way the father of one daughter hosted the show in one single sentence.
As the stage crew coordinator, I warned him to not go too far or the performers would be seen less funny than him.
However, I couldn’t cover all of the story of Iki Loo Malang 2 as I had to do some things during the show. I believe that this event was the most memorable event we have held so far. The concepts, the executions, the lighting, the sound systems, the opening ceremony, all of them were the best we have ever had, thanks to Mr Kholiq Shaan. You are the boss, Mr Shaan my lord.
Buy the DVD and you will know that This Is Malang.
